One of my dear friend for the past month has became one of our squad leaders, Patrice Deaton. At first when I met her back in July, she intimidated me. I usually see myself as someone that can be pretty much comfortable with anyone but it took me a little bit to figure out our language together.
Now that we have been living together for a month I know God has purposefully put me under her wings for this season. As I am one of the team leaders, Patrice has taught me so much. She has encouraged me to accept people where they are but also believe in the person God has created them to be. She has also taught me about listening to God, calling on the name of Jesus to bring God's kingdom to earth, using the authority we have in the Holy Spirit, living in community, allowing myself to be vulnerable with people…the list could go on. Now I know the intimidation I first felt when I met her was really the Holy Spirit inside of her, which freely flows from her life.
Patrice definitely leads by example, especially when it comes to depending on the Lord. She has set sail on this journey with nineteen 18-21 year olds for 8 months, and in doing so she also has to raise support. Right now she is on her way to raising $5,000. Here is the link to her blog: http://patricedeaton.theworldrace.org/ and if you feel lead to support her please do so! You can even help spread the word 🙂
